GFWC Response to Haitian Earthquake Disaster

GFWC has a significant history of generosity when natural or manmade disasters devastate communities.  The catastrophic earthquake in Haiti on Tuesday is estimated to have affected at least three million people, with a death toll in the tens of thousands.

The pictures and videos are heartbreaking and unspeakably horrific. Water, food, shelter, medicine, and other basic life needs are in short supply. Already one of the world’s poorest countries, the situation for women and children is especially concerning.

On Friday, the GFWC Executive Committee approved a “Haitian Disaster Relief” effort through the GFWC Disaster Relief Fund. Monies are being collected to assist GFWC International Partners, CARE’s and UNICEF’s efforts in Haiti’s relief and development following this heartbreaking event.

I urge each of you to reach out to your fellow clubwomen, especially those in your state, and ask them to contribute to GFWC’s efforts. The collective impact of clubwomen working together as one cohesive unit to assist those in need demonstrates the true power of the Federation. All donations will be acknowledged and recognized.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims in Haiti and their families here in the U.S. and around the world.

Please answer the call and save lives today.
