In 2010-2012 GFWC VIRGINIA will partner with Prevent Child Abuse Virginia and its statewide network of affiliates to prevent child abuse and neglect.  This partnership provides GFWC Virginia club women an opportunity to positively affect staggering maltreatment statistics.

History has proven that increases in unemployment directly relate to increases in child abuse and neglect.  Sadly, at a time when more parents are stressed and need additional support and guidance, state and local funding for child abuse prevention programs is being cut.  Prevent Child Abuse Virginia's Statewide Healthy Families Initiative will face a 30% cut in funding by June 30.

The 2010-2012 GFWC Virginia State Project provides service opportunities which extend far beyond financial support.  Child maltreatment affects all economic, racial, social and ethnic groups.  Prevent Child Abuse Virginia has 48 community partners serving 106 localities across the state.  Club women will be able to develop and implement proven child abuse prevention programs within their very own communities.

Take Time to sign "The Pledge for Children" and record your answer to the BIG QUESTION - "How can we ensure that every child has an equal opportunity for healthy growth and development?"  Go to www.preventchildabuseva.org to pledge your support.
The GFWC Bedford Woman’s Club participated in the Bedford Visitors Center’s Annual Festival of Trees.  Their tree’s theme was “Take Time to Save A Child” and was decorated with pinwheels, GFWC ornaments and other decorative items.  A sign, placed next to the tree, introduced the public to their club, outlined our State Project, and explained the significance of the pinwheels.  What a creative way to increase awareness of Child Abuse.

It is never too early to begin making  plans for your club's April 2012 Pinwheels for Prevention Garden.  GFWC Virginia clubs may purchase pinwheels for $.46 a piece.

Contact Stacy Adams at Prevent Child Abuse Virginia,  shadams@pcav.org.    Let's have a Pinwheels for Prevention Garden in every GFWC Virginia club's community.
